Bed bugs
Bed bugs (only Cimex lectularius), as well as its instars, love to suck human blood when people sleep during at the night time (CO2 and warmth acting as pheromones). When the bed bug bites, most people do not feel or notice anything, but for some people it may cause swelling, itching or hives.
Bed bugs are nowadays detected everywhere in Finland. Most frequently, they are located in places where people tend to sleep for a very short time e.g. in motels, hotels and ships. From there they may arrive to your apartment quite unnoticed together with you and/or your belongings. Bed bugs can also spread between the apartment buildings via ventilation, sewerage and cable channels. Bed bugs also spread via beds and bed clothing.
During the day time, bed bugs live in various gaps and cracks famished (hungry) and rather unnoticed for a very long periods. However, their existence in your apartment can be finally noticed from their feces, which are rather dark and circular.
Identification
Bed bug is 2-5 mm long (NOTE! Adults may be up to 8 mm long) and flat side pest.
Most bed bugs are brown in color, but famished (hungry) bed bugs may be much lighter, almost colorless.

What can I do by myself?
The most easiest way to prevent the bedbugs from entering your apartment, is to keep your apartment and yourself clean and also avoid (unnecessary) travelling.
However, we truly understand that sometimes you just need to get out of your home and experience new places. Then we highly recommend that you try to avoid (as much as possible) from using the hotel/motel wardrobes and do not keep your luggage under hotel/motel bed. After you are back at home, we recommend that you wash all your travelling clothes in the washing machine (min. 60°C) and heat other stuff in the sauna (if available).
Bed bug access to your bed can also be hindered e.g. with different kind of cups and tapes designed especially for bedbugs. Both of those product types can be naturally purchased from us.
